Reverend Michael Plont Blog

This is a one-way blog and comments will not be posted. Due to the message that we preach, people often post comments that are filled with inappropriate language and vulgarities. I cannot stand before God knowing I may have lead someone astray, by the misleading words of another person being published here. I will only write what God is speaking to me through His Word.

Everybody Wants a Savior

Growing up in the world, as I did, I found out that everyone wants a savior. Webster’s Dictionary defines Savior as “1. one that saves from danger or destruction - 2: one who brings salvation; Jesus.” Whether it was my baseball team, counting on our superstar pitcher coming in the game to pitch the last inning, or my friends flocking to the cinema to see the likes of Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Luke Skywalker, or Governor Arnold save the world from destruction, everyone was looking for a Savior. Even the ladies were looking at Tom Cruise, Fabio, Brad Pitt, Richard Gere, and Michael Jackson to be their “knights in shining armor”.

Several rock groups were searching for someone or something in songs like Cinderella’s “Somebody Save Me”, Queen’s “Save Me”, Christina Aguilera’s “Save Me From Myself” and Hanson’s “Save Me”. Seems their coveted lifestyle of alcohol, drugs, and sex, still left them wanting for something more.

And then there are Christians. Yes, I am talking about all of us. We love to have a Savior do we not? 2 Peter 3:18 states “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen”. We love the latter, but far too often we forget the former. Webster’s Dictionary definition of Lord states “1: one having power and authority over others: a: a ruler by hereditary right or preeminence to whom service and obedience are due 1 a: God 1 b: Jesus”. Once again we love the Savior and forget the Lord.

Why is it that we are afraid to be who we are? The world is certainly not afraid to be who they are. If they are gay, they are more then happy to portray it, and fight for their beliefs. If they are entertainers, they openly embrace the promiscuous lifestyle, the drugs and/or alcohol, child bearing out of wedlock and countless other sins. They are who they are. But the majority of the time we remain silent and inactive. The church has become afraid to be the church.

Why would the world want to serve our Christ? We have them convinced that we can live like them, act like them, and talk like them, and party like them. We have led them to believe that we can live like the devil, and at the last second Super Jesus will swoop in and rescue us from the depths of Hell. But it this was Christ died for? No. I repeat 2 Peter 3:18 states “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”. They, the world, deserve better and so does Jesus.

The world wants a Savior and so do we, but they will never meet him if we do not have a Lord. 1 Peter 1:13-16 states “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." Our Father wrote "Be holy, because I am holy” for a reason. This life is not about us, but it is about our Lord.

Anybody can find a Savior. Anyone can worship. It takes commitment to serve a Lord. Embrace your Savior. Love your Savior. Cherish your Savior, but surrender to your Lord. Give him back that life He gave you. If we are going to confess before men that we are a Christian, then by God, we should act like one. Then, if we truly surrender every single thing to our Lord, then the world will begin to appreciate our SAVIOR.
